Reşadiye
Reşadiye is a town of Tokat located in the Cappadocia land within the Kızılırmak arc in the central part of the Black Sea. It is on the side of Kelkit Stream, on the highway. Reşadiye is surrounded by Ordu in the north, Almus in the south, Niksar and Başçiftlik in the west, and Sivas in the southeast. According to 2020 TUIK data, its total population is 34,221. The old Cappadocia land has passed from hand to hand, and different nations have established civilizations in this land. Hittites, Persians, Macedonians, Pontus Kingdom, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, Danishmends, Kadı Burhaneddin and Akkoyunlus ruled in this region, respectively. The history of İskefser, which is known as the old name of Reşadiye, which later came under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, dates back to the 15th century. The famous Turkish traveler Evliya Çelebi, who went through this region to Erzurum and returned to Istanbul on the same route, mentions this region in his Travelogue. It is stated in Evliya Çelebi's Travel Book that the road called the Orient Road, where land transportation was made between East and West in those centuries, passed through Reşadiye. There are still large cemeteries on this road. The reasons why Reşadiye is covered with pine forests in terms of geographical features, not affected by the harsh climate conditions in winter, being in a central place according to the location of the villages, having health-friendly thermal springs, and passing the Eastern Road on the Kelkit Valley, are the reasons that affect its choice as the district center. In 1939, the earthquake, also known as the 1939 Erzincan Earthquake in the night that connects 26 December to 27 December, was effective in Reşadiye and its villages, and in this earthquake, not a single building remained standing in Reşadiye. In this state, the town center and its villages were left to their fate for a long time. There are official records that a total of 2100 people died, including the villages. After 1966, with the intense work of the administrators of the time and the contributions of the people of Reşadiye, a new breakthrough and structuring emerged, first of all, financial problems were overcome and extremely important investments were made under the conditions of the day. sent a large number of workers. These workers transferred their earnings to their districts, so the district center entered a rapid urbanization process. In addition, there is a hamlet called Kalecik in the south of the village near Altıparmak village, but the remains of the castle that have not come to light and its height are in sight. To date, various ceramics, coins, plateaus and historical tombs spread over villages have been found in Reşadiye, belonging to the Romans, Byzantines and Turks. There are ruined castle ruins in the villages. Most of them have basic ruins left. In Göllüköy, Çamlıkaya, Saraydüzü, Kalecik, Mengen Castle, Kaledüzü, Kızılcaören, Turaç Village plateau, there is a historical burial area belonging to the Byzantine period and later Muslims were buried.
