Rize Center

Rize (Ancient Greek: Ριζαίον (Rizeon), Greek: Ριζούντα (Rizunda) Laz: რიზინი "Rizini") is a city in the Eastern Black Sea Region of the Black Sea Region. Rize, which is in the east of the historical Pontus region, was located in the Lazistan Sanjak during the Ottoman period. Today it is connected to Turkey.


It is surrounded by Çayeli and Güneysu in the east, İkizdere in the south, Derepazarı and Kalkandere in the west, and the Black Sea in the north. The population of the city is 96,503 as of 2009. Its population increased from 14,000 in 1927 to 52,743 in 1990, 78,144 in 2000, and 94,800 in 2007. According to 2020 data, the population is 348,608.
