Şabanözü

Şabanözü as a settlement in Çankırı, which was under the rule of Kaşkas, Hittites, Macedonians, Paphlagonians, Galatians, Romans and Byzantines in various periods of its history, is mentioned for the first time between 217 - 117 BC during the Paflagonians period.

With the 1071 Malazgirt victory, the Çankırı region was also conquered by Karatekin Bey and this region joined the Danişment lands. In later periods, respectively, together with Çankırı, Şabanözü; Seljuks, Çobanoğulları, Candarogullari and Isfendiyaroğulları principalities passed under the administration. Afterwards, Şabanözü, which was among the lands of the Ottoman Empire and was never invaded by the enemy, took its place within the borders of today's country with the proclamation of the Republic.

Şabanözü became the district center in 1944. When it was established as a district, today's Orta district was a sub-district and had 57 villages. When Orta sub-district became a district in 1959, 26 villages remained under Şabanözü. In the 1970s, Meşeli, Sarısu, Demirci, Kösrelik and a few villages were connected to Çubuk district of Ankara province. It currently has 19 villages.
