The historical city of Safranbolu, located on the road connecting the Black Sea coasts to Western, Northern and Central Anatolia, has been inhabited since ancient times due to its geographical location. Safranbolu, which was under the rule of the Turks since the beginning of the 14th century, became an important trade center between Asia and Europe, especially in the 18th century. This city, which is an unspoiled example of Turkish urban history, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the rare cities declared as a protected area with its traditional urban texture, wooden masonry houses and monumental structures.
