Sarıkamış

Sarıkamış is a district of Kars province in the Eastern Anatolia Region.

There are many historical artifacts in the district from the period of Russian domination. The most striking of these is the Tsar Nikola Mansion in Upper Sarikamis. The history of the district goes back to the Byzantine period. The entry of the region to the domination of Muslim rulers starts from the Seljuk period. Seljuk commander Alparslan captured this region in his war with the Byzantine king in 1064.

The Ottomans lost 90,000 soldiers in the Sarıkamış Operation.

Kızılçubuk village of the district was evacuated in the 1990s due to terrorist incidents.
