Serdivan
Serdivan is a district of Sakarya province. It is 5-6 km west of Adapazarı. Serdivan consisted of immigrants who settled here as a result of the population exchange between Turkey and Greece. After the 1999 Gölcük earthquake, its population increased rapidly and it became a municipality in 1982 and a district in 2008. It is one of the 4 metropolitan districts that make up the province of Sakarya.
It is stated that Serdivan was used as a settlement later than Adapazarı. It is estimated that it was founded by Greek subjects who were first settled here in the 17th century. There is information that his first name was "Petrades". Over time, the name "Sardovan" and today's expression "Serdivan" began to be used. Our immigrant citizens who were planned to go to Samsun as per the agreement, after seeing Adapazarı and Serdivan, gave up going to Samsun due to the fertile soil and settled here. Immigrants, who did not take kindly to the proposals of the district governor and notables of that time to settle in the houses evacuated by the Greeks and Armenians, saw the hill as their settlement and settled in the present Serdivan.
In the past, there were settlements in the form of Divanlik in the place where the town was located. Since the town was the center of these divans (Chief divan), he played the role of Serdivan. The name Serdivan comes from here. The first Municipal Organization was established on February 2, 1956 in Serdivan, which is subject to the village status in the administrative division.
Serdivan, which became a town, maintained this status until April 13, 1981. In accordance with the Security Council Decision No. 34, it was annexed to Adapazarı Municipality in neighborhoods and its legal personality was terminated. On February 1, 1982, it was declared a municipality by the order of the Navy and Martial Law Command. With the connection of Serdivan to Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality (2000), it developed rapidly with new roads, infrastructure and superstructure works and has become one of the favorite settlements today.
