District / Taşkent, Turkiye, Central Anatolia, Konya

Taşkent

Taşkent is one of the 31 districts of Konya province. Located at the southernmost tip of Konya, the district is adjacent to the provinces of Karaman and Antalya, and another Konya district, Hadim. It was separated from Hadim in 1988 and gained the status of a district.

Generally, Turkmens belonging to Avşar tribe settled in and around Taşkent between 1225-1250. Tashkent and its surrounding settlements were formed by the settled life of the Turkmen here. Tashkent was annexed to the Ottoman Empire after Fatih Sultan Mehmet put an end to the Karamanoğulları Principality.

The former name of Tashkent was Pirlerkondu. It was named as Taşkent by Konya Governor İzzet Bey in 1930 and was named as Tashkent later on. The township of Tashkent became a district in accordance with the law no. 3392, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 1987 and numbered 19507, and officially became operational as of 1988.
