Türkoğlu

Türkoğlu is a district of Kahramanmaraş province. The population of the district is 78,569 as of 2020.

As it is understood from the mounds found throughout the district and the excavations made in the Domuztepe Mound, the district has a deep-rooted history of approximately seven thousand years. The district has hosted many different civilizations and the settlement in its present center started 180 years ago in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. The first inhabitants of Türkoğlu are the Tecirli tribe belonging to the Avşar tribe of the Oğuzlar. Tecirli tribe; They lived a nomadic life between the villages of Tombak, Nadir, Ericek and Çukurova. When these nomadic lives of the "expatriates" harm the environment, the complaints of the residents increase. Derviş Pasha was appointed by the Ottoman State for a job that was not the only reason for these complaints, and as a result of long efforts, the Tecirler were forcibly relocated to their places. There are still buildings from this period. Generally, these places are in the Cumhuriyet neighborhood.

Since Eloğlu Mondros was on the same route as Maraş, which was occupied by the French under the guidance of the Armenians after the Armistice Agreement, they were occasionally subjected to occupation, persecution and mass murders.

Eloğlu was evacuated for a while due to these persecutions. Meanwhile, the French resided in the central Ulu Mosque. Eloğlu was lastly persecuted when the French were withdrawing from Maraş after February 11, 1920. The French were driven away from this region by the surrounding gangs. On February 12, 1920, the French left this region completely in the direction of Islahiye.
