Ulukışla

Ulukışla is a district of Niğde province. Ulukışla is the largest district of Niğde in terms of surface area and the second largest district of Niğde after Bor in terms of total population. The climate is the Mediterranean-Central Anatolia transition climate. Summers are cool and dry, winters are cold and snowy. Precipitation density shifts to spring and winter seasons. The vegetation is steppe, but it is forested on the Mersin border. There are 38 villages connected to the district. Its area is 1503 km² and its population density is 20. The territory of the district is mountainous. Bolkar Mountains are located in the south. Its main stream is Çiftehan Stream. There are fir, red pine, cedar and larch forests in the high parts of the mountains. Its economy is based on agriculture. The main agricultural products are apples, barley, potatoes, wheat, grapes and sugar beet. Livestock is an important economic source of income. Brick and tile factories are the main industrial establishments. There are gold, silver, zinc, iron, gypsum and lead-zinc deposits on the territory of the district. The district center was established in the Çiftehan Stream Valley.
