Zara
Zara is a district of Sivas province.
The Battle of Kösedağ, which finalized the destruction of the Anatolian Seljuks by the Mongols, took place in Zara in 1243. After the Mongol domination, Zara remained under the administration of Eretna and Turkmen Kadi Burhanettin states.
According to the latest researches, it is thought that the district and its surroundings were first settled in the Neolithic Period. The excavations carried out in the mound between Zara and Hafik yielded finds such as tiny flint tips, hand mill stones and animal bones showing Neolithic Period characteristics.
