Nicosia

Nicosia is the capital of the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, located in the middle of the island of Cyprus. It is the most populous city of Cyprus and the most important cultural, industrial, commercial and transportation center.

The city is divided into two by the so-called Green Line border. Although de jure the Republic of Cyprus has the administration of the whole city, de facto it only dominates South Nicosia. Northern Nicosia is under the domination of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and is considered by the international community to be under Turkish occupation. The two sections are separated by a Buffer Zone administered by the United Nations Peacekeeping Force. With the 1960 Constitution of the Republic of Cyprus, a legal status was given to the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. Kykkos Monastery, Cyprus Museum, Büyük Han and Panagia Asinou Church are places to visit here.
