The Pearl Mullet, also known as the Flying Van Fish, is the only species that can live in the salty soda waters of Lake Van. Although it has a mullet in its name, it is a member of the carp family. It is found only in this closed basin in the world. It has a length of 20 cm and a weight of 80-90 grams. Pearl mullets, which cannot breed in the salty-soda waters of the lake, migrate in large flocks every year in June and July. Fish swimming against the current to lay their eggs, fly over the obstacles on the rivers and return to the lake after laying their eggs.
