Kop Ski Resort (Bayburt)

Kop Ski Resort, officially known as the Kop Mountain Winter Sports and Ski Center, is a winter sports and skiing facility located on Kop Mountain in Bayburt Province, Türkiye. The resort is situated on the historic Silk Road route connecting the Black Sea Region with Eastern Anatolia.

Location

Kop Ski Resort is located on the Bayburt–Erzurum highway, approximately 33–39 km from the city center of Bayburt and about 70 km from Erzurum Airport. The facility is established at an elevation of around 2,400 meters above sea level and is surrounded by pine forests.

History

Although skiing activities have been practiced in the region for many years, the Kop Mountain area was officially designated as a tourism center in 1991. Following this designation, planning and development for winter sports and ski tourism began. Over time, the resort’s infrastructure and mechanical facilities have been expanded and improved.

Facilities

The ski slopes at Kop Ski Resort are located between elevations of approximately 1,970 and 2,450 meters. The resort offers several ski runs of varying difficulty levels, with slope lengths ranging from about 1,240 to 1,950 meters. Mechanical lift systems such as teleski and chairlift facilities serve the slopes, making the resort suitable for both amateur and experienced skiers.

Tourism and Sports

Thanks to its long-lasting snow cover, Kop Ski Resort provides favorable conditions for skiing and other winter sports from December until late May. The resort serves winter tourism with its ski slopes and lift systems and is frequently visited not only by local residents but also by visitors from nearby provinces such as Gümüşhane and Trabzon.

Transportation and Access

The resort is accessible by road via the Bayburt–Erzurum highway. Accommodation facilities and day-use areas are available in and around the ski center, and transportation to the area is primarily provided by private vehicles and road transport.

Events and Developments

Kop Ski Resort hosts regional winter sports events, including ski competitions, training programs, and winter festivals. In recent years, various development projects—such as slope extensions, improvements to lift systems, and renovations of accommodation facilities—have been carried out to increase the resort’s capacity and attractiveness.
