Çam Mountain
Çam Mountain is a mountain in the NE of Sakarya, in the junction area of Hendek, Karasu, Kocaali districts, forming a not very high ridge. It is an extension of the Akçakoca Mountains and Bolu Mountain, intruding west in the provinces of Zonguldak and Bolu.
Akçakoca and Bolu Mountains, which are suddenly interrupted in the Düzce depression area, are reshaped in the west of the depression area and intruded into the territory of Sakarya one by one in the form of hillocks. Pine Mountain is one of the widest and most prominent, if not the highest of these hills. The average height of Pine Mountain is 880 meters. This elevation increases towards the east and reaches 900 m at Fındıklıtepe.
Pine Mountain is covered with forests consisting of coniferous trees in the low areas and large areas in the high areas. The under-forest flora is covered with herbs, shrubs and shrubs consisting of Mediterranean plants, some maquis species and Black Sea species. Bayraktepe was built during the period in Atakbaşı Locality, where the tree logs of the mountain, which is thought to have taken this name because its high parts are covered with pines, are rolled into the foothills. Chestnut Honey, which is obtained from the chestnut trees found in abundance on the Çamdağı, is an important source of income and flavor of the region. On the southern slope of the Çam Mountain, facing the Hendek, there is the tomb of Selman Dede. Every year, Selman Dede commemoration events are held by the Hendek Municipality in the area that has been turned into a large recreation area. The highway connecting Hendek to Kocaali districts passes over Çam Mountain. This road has been determined as a nature and culture road. It is used as a trekking route by local governments. Outdoor sports activities are carried out at certain times of the year.
