Karadağ Plateau (Maçka)

Karadağ Plateau is a natural highland plateau located within the boundaries of Maçka district of Trabzon Province, in the Black Sea Region of Türkiye. The plateau is known for its high altitude, cool climate, and well-preserved natural environment, making it a notable destination for Black Sea highland tourism.

Situated at an elevation of approximately 1,900–2,200 meters above sea level, Karadağ Plateau reflects the typical geographical characteristics of the Eastern Black Sea highlands, featuring wide alpine meadows, surrounding mountain ranges, and valleys often covered in mist. The area is well suited for nature tourism, including hiking (trekking), camping, photography, and outdoor recreation.

Traditional wooden and stone highland houses can be found across Karadağ Plateau. During the summer months, local residents continue seasonal transhumance and livestock farming, allowing visitors to observe authentic highland life and local traditions. With its peaceful atmosphere and clean mountain air, the plateau offers a natural escape from urban life.

Access to Karadağ Plateau is generally possible during the summer season, and some sections of the road may be unpaved. For this reason, the plateau is commonly visited as part of private tours and nature- and highland-focused travel programs.
