Pılır Mound

The area of this lake in the northwest of Hafik district center is approximately 1 km². The lake, which has an average depth of 6 m, is fed by boiling waters from the bottom. The lake, whose excess water flows into Kızılırmak, is one of the important recreation areas of the region. During the sounding excavation at Pilir Höyük in Büyük Göl (Hafik Lake), the existence of lake houses on wooden poles driven into the lake floor was determined and it was concluded that the settlement dates back to the Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Ages. Pilir Höyük is the only example in our country of a lake house type called Palafit, many examples of which were discovered in Lake Zurich and Alpine lakes in Switzerland.
