Abacıoğlu Inn
The historical Abacıoğlu Inn stands out as a historical place that is not well known and has been left in the background of the crowds and chaos of Kemeraltı, but draws attention with its natural architecture and peaceful structure as soon as you step through its door. Located on the right side of Anafartalar Street leading from Kemeraltı Başdurak Mosque to Arasta, between 919th and 920th streets, on the island, with a courtyard in the middle and two-story shops surrounding this courtyard, the asymmetrical planned Abacıoğlu Inn, a structure made of regular cut stone, roughly cut stone and brick, is estimated to have been built by Hacı Mustafa Ağa at the beginning of the 18th century. In the early years of the Republic, it functioned as a ‘vegetable and fruit market’ on the one hand, and as one of the movement centers for motor vehicles carrying passengers and cargo to the surrounding districts on the other. Only the northeastern and southwest wings of the structure, which is estimated to have originally had nine rooms and seven basements, remain today. In the current state of the inn, there are seven shops on the right side of the courtyard. The facades of these shops facing the courtyard have two rows of windows on the top, two windows on the bottom and a door. There are eight shops on the northeast wing on the left side of the courtyard. Unlike the other section, these are covered with a hipped roof. There are sixteen windows in groups of two above the shops. These shops are made into two floors with wooden flooring on the inside, only one of them is divided into two by a wall in the middle. The inn, which was restored within the scope of the facade arrangement projects prepared by the Konak Municipality and which was awarded the "Respect for History / Local Award" in 2007 as a result of the "Urban Improvement Project Implementation" and again in 2011, it was awarded among the 30 best architectural structures in the Philippe Rotthier European Architecture Competition, one of the most important architectural competitions in the world, and is a nice stopover during a tour of Kemeraltı. Today, the inn serves as a touristic area with a restaurant, cafeteria, silversmith, carpet shop, leather shop and tea garden.
