Ağaçbaşı Peat Bog

Ağaçbaşı Peat Bog (Turba Bataklığı), located at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters on the border of the Sürmene and Köprübaşı districts of Trabzon, is Turkey's largest and most protected **“High Altitude Peat Bog”**.

You can use the following information to position this location as “nature's black box” or “time machine” in your marketing strategy:

Ağaçbaşı Turbalığı is not an ordinary wetland. It was formed by the accumulation of plant remains over approximately 8,000 to 10,000 years. With this feature, it is a massive natural archive that contains information about the region's climate, vegetation, and ecological changes over the last 10,000 years.

The most important element of the bog is the rare plant communities called Sphagnum (peat moss). These mosses have a water retention capacity 20 times their own weight. This allows the area to act as a natural water reservoir and filter.

Endemic Species: Rare plants and carnivorous plants (such as Drosera) found only in this ecosystem.

Landscape: The changing color palette (shades of red, green, and yellow) depending on the season, combined with fog, offers a captivating atmosphere for photographers.
