Aigai Ancient City

Located within the borders of Manisa province, Aigai was founded on Gün Mountain in the mountain range called Aspordene in ancient times and Yunt Mountain today. Yunt Mountain is administratively located within the provincial borders of Manisa and İzmir. This area, with a total area of 3,521 km², is bordered by Bakırçay (ancient Kaikos) in the north, Gediz (ancient Hermos) rivers in the south, Kırkağaç and Akhisar plains in the east, and Çandarlı Bay in the west. The highest point of Yunt Mountain, which consists of hills varying between 500-1000 meters in height and wide plains between these hills, is located at 1076 meters.

In ancient times, Yunt Mountain formed the border of Lydia region with Aiolis and Mysia regions. The most important ancient center established on Yunt Mountain is the ancient city of Aigai. Archaeological data and landmarks obtained to date show that a significant part of Yunt Mountain was under Aigai control, especially during the Hellenistic Period. In his book published in 1890, Ramsay mentions that the borders of Aigai are quite wide.
