Akçakoca Historical Houses

Akçakoca District and its villages contain beautiful examples of civil architecture. These structures have different architectural features according to the construction period and the origins of the settlers of the villages. Most of the historical houses are located in Yukari Neighborhood, which is one of the oldest settlements in Akçakoca and is famous for such houses. 160 historical houses have been taken under protection as a protected area. Some of the historical houses, which are examples of civil architecture resembling an open air museum, have been restored. These houses, which have a history of approximately 150 to 200 years, are collected in three groups. The kitchens of the single-storey and rectangular-planned ones of the first type of historical houses are wide and the rooms are narrow. The second type of historical houses, on the other hand, has a rectangular plan close to the square and has two floors. It has many but narrow windows. They were built in wood, carcass and bagdadi style on a stone foundation. The ground floor of the outer surface is plastered and the upper floor is wood veneer. It has large wooden gazebos. The third type of historical houses, which were built more recently, have wider windows and lower ceiling heights. The exterior surfaces of the houses with wooden floors and ceilings are plastered.
