Akhan Caravan Palace
Akhan Caravanserai, which is one of the last caravanserais of the Anatolian Seljuks in the west and has two inscriptions, is a rather small inn, although it conforms to the scheme of sultan inns. Han has two inscriptions. The closed part was completed in 1253 (H. 651) and the courtyard was completed in 1254 (H. 652). It was built by the Governor Seyfettin Karasungur bin Abdullah. In the inscription II. Izzettin Keykavus' name is mentioned. The caravanserai, which does not show a symmetrical plan, consists of open and closed sections. It sits on a total area of 1,100 square meters and consists of a square courtyard and a deeply rectangular hall.
The indoor space is divided in depth into three naves with two rows of piers. The nave in the middle is wider and higher than the side naves. The upper part is covered with a vault. Its portal in the form of a niche with a pointed arch protrudes half a meter with the low arched entrance door. It has a very simple appearance with the inscription on it. Despite the symmetrical arrangement of the indoor space, an asymmetrical plan emerges in the courtyard. Although there are two-storey spaces, an iwan and two closed units on the right side of the courtyard entrance, there are porticoes and two vaulted spaces adjacent to the indoor space on the other side.
