Ani Ancient City
Ani is the ruins located in the southeast of Kars city and on the Arpaçay length.
Ani, which has been an important settlement since the Iron Age, first became a part of the lands of the Nairis and Urartians, who were natives of Anatolia, then was captured by the Armenians and served as the capital of the Armenian rulers from the Pakraduni Dynasty between 961-1045. It also houses some works of Islamic architecture from the 11th and 12th centuries. Ani, which was included in the World Heritage Tentative List by UNESCO in 2012, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2016.
