Artvin Castle

It is located in Artvin Çayağzı Neighborhood. It is connected to the bedrock at a height of 70 meters from the riverbed, on the opposite side of the Artvin Bridge on the Çoruh River, at the point of the Erzurum-Samsun highway that provides the exit to the Artvin city center. There are cistern and chapel ruins in the castle. This castle, at the entrance of the city of Artvin on the banks of the Coruh River, was built in 937 by the Bagrat (Georgian) King Osett the Great. The old name of the castle is Livana.
