Auferstehungskirche

The Evangelical Church of the Resurrection in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel, located at the corner of Arnulfstraße/Quirinstraße, is an architecturally significant testament to Art Nouveau, which foresaw the Rhine brick architecture of the 1920s. The monument is under protection. It was built between 1913 and 1914 according to the design of Düsseldorf architects Rudolf Wilhelm Verheyen and Julius Stobbe and was inaugurated on Ascension Day 1914. The church, the presbytery, the parish building and the administration building are combined into a structural ensemble of unplastered brick and natural stone structures under green tiled roofs, a novelty for the time. The church, a hall building with a gallery, is distinguished by a high Baroque-style spiral shield with Art Nouveau ornaments and a protruding octagonal tower with brass partitions. Traditionally, a tower is blown at midnight on Christmas Eve.
