Ayios Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church
Ayios Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church is a Greek Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Panteleimon, located in the Kuzguncuk neighborhood of Üsküdar district of Istanbul. The church was built by Ottoman Sultan II in 1831. It was opened for worship during the reign of Mahmud (1808-1839). In 1872, a fire broke out in the church building. The construction of the church, which was redesigned by architect Nikola Ziko after the fire, started in 1890. After two years of construction, the church was reopened for worship. The church building was designed in the form of a Greek cross plan of Byzantine architecture. The main dome covering the middle part of the building is supported by four legs. The bell tower, built by Andon Hüdaverdioğlu from Kuzguncuk in 1911, is located above the marble courtyard entrance gate. There is a square-shaped holy spring on the street right next to the church.
