Ayios Yeoryios Metohion Church

It is between Vodina Street and Merdivenli Mektep Street in Fener. This church, which was first built in 1132, was built in the 17th century. It has been the metohion (representation) of the Jerusalem Patriarchate for centuries. As we learn from its inscription after the fire in 1640, it was rebuilt in 1708 during the reign of Jerusalem Patriarch Hrisantos, in line with the project of the Architect Kalfa Paulos. It suffered another fire in 1728 and was rebuilt. In 1913, the building underwent major repairs again. The building, which has a three-nave basilica plan, is made of crushed stone and brick and has a tile-covered roof that slopes to both sides. On both sides of the apse in the middle are dioconicon and prothesis cells, which have their own apses. Their apses project outward in a semi-circular shape. The gallery, which protrudes towards the naves above the narthex, is accessed by the wooden staircase in the northwest of the naos. The church has a single entrance from the courtyard to the Naos. The entrance to the naos from here on both sides has low arches. Ayios minas holy spring is located in the north of Naos.
