Ayvalik Ayazması

The name Ayazma comes from the Greek word "Hagiasma" meaning holy place. Holy springs are structures belonging to Orthodox culture. It is usually located under or next to the Orthodox Churches, independently or independently. It is believed that the holy spring cures diseases and fulfills wishes. Istanbul is the richest city in Turkey in terms of holy springs. So much so that the number of holy springs made in the Ottoman Period is higher than in the Byzantine Period.

One of the most important religious buildings of Ayvalık is the Panagia Phaneromeni Holy Spring. Panagia is the name given to the Virgin Mary by the Orthodox. Phaneromeni means resurrected, resurrected, emerging. As the name suggests, this building was built for the Virgin Mary. The Panagia Faneromeni Ayazma, which is affiliated to the "Church of Panagia Haralambos", is not a church and was opened by Prof. Dr. It was definitely understood after the excavations he made under the consultancy of Ömer Özyiğit.
