Balikesir Clock Tower

This work, which is almost the symbol of Balıkesir, was built by Balıkesir Mütesellimimi Giridlizâde Mehmet Pasha in 1843 with a cylindrical plan similar to the Galata Tower; It was destroyed in the 1898 earthquake that occurred in the center of Balıkesir.

The building took its current four-cornered baldecan cone shape in 1901 during the time of the famous Karesi Governor Ömer Ali Bey. Our clock tower, which is featured in all Balıkesir photographs, still bears witness to time in our city.
