Bintepeler
Bintepeler, Bin Tepeler or Bintepe tumulus tombs, tumulus burial necropolis located near the ancient city of Sardes. It was built during the First Age, about the 6th and 7th centuries BC.
It is located in the part between Gediz River and Marmara Lake. It belongs to the famous Lydian king Alyattes. The tumulus of Alyattes, with a diameter of 355 meters, a height of 69 meters and a circumference of 1115 meters, is among the largest tumulus tombs in the world. The burial chamber was discovered by the Prussian ambassador Ludwig Peter Spiegelthal, already looted in antiquity.
In the 1940s, there were at least 149 tumuli in the region. Some of them were destroyed as a result of agricultural activities, and only 115 tumuli have been preserved until today.
Currently, it is located in the Salihli district of Manisa province, northwest of the district centre. The tombs in the region can be seen on both sides of the Akhisar-Salihli highway.
