Bitlis Ulu Mosque
The mosque, which is the oldest structure of the city of Bitlis, is also one of the earliest works within the borders of Anatolia. The mosque, which is an example of architectural forms to be built after you with its symmetrical scheme, is a pioneering example. Although the exact date of the work, which does not have a construction inscription, is not known, it is understood that it was repaired in 1150 based on the repair inscription. From this point of view, it is generally accepted that the building was built in 1150. In addition, it is known that the building was built by Ebul Muzaffer Muhammed, one of the Dilmaçoğulları, on the northern entrance door. The building has undergone various repairs and the first major repair was in 1651. The monument, which was damaged in the 1916 Russian occupation, was destroyed by a lightning strike in 1960. The last repair of the building was carried out recently, and its courtyard was unearthed with the archaeological excavations and the courtyard section was added.
