Bursa Osmangazi Tomb
Osman Gazi, the founder of the Ottoman State, lived between 1258-1324. Osmangazi was buried in the mausoleum built on the chapel of the Byzantine Monastery of Sainte Elie, known as the "Gümüşlü Kümbet", after the conquest of Bursa upon his will, during the siege of Bursa. The tomb, which was completely destroyed by a fire in 1801 and by the earthquake of 1855, was restored to its present form in 1863 by Sultan Abdulaziz, remaining faithful to its old structure.
The wooden sarcophagus inlaid with mother-of-pearl in the middle of the tomb belongs to Osmangazi. The sarcophagus is surrounded by railings inlaid with mother-of-pearl. The veil made during Abdülaziz's visit to Bursa, embroidered with silver and silver on velvet, showing the dates of Osmangazi's personality, birth, year of reign and death, was covered on the sarcophagus. Inside the tomb, there are the sarcophagi of Osmangazi's son Alaaddin Bey, Orhangazi's wife Aspurça Hatun and twelve relatives.
