Cacabey Gökbilim Madrasa
Cacabey Astronomy Madrasa, one of the most important historical buildings in Kırşehir and located in the city center, was built in 1272 by the Governor of Kırşehir, Nureddin Cibril bin Cacabey, as a madrasah where mathematics, science and astronomy education was given.
In addition to its unique architecture, Cacabey Astronomy Madrasa, which attracts attention with its interior colonnades believed to symbolize the planets in the solar system, the observation well in the courtyard, the illuminated lighthouse and the 21-meter-high observation tower on the south-west façade of the building, is one of the first centers to provide astronomy education and perhaps is the most important.
It is believed that the colonnades in three different places on the exterior of the madrasah show the firing and launching state of a rocket. It is commented that some shapes engraved on the crown gate of the madrasa symbolize the moon and the sun, and that the circular shapes in the lower right and left corners of the pediment show the equatorial line and axis tilt.
The madrasa, where Cacabey's tomb is located, is used as a mosque today and is known as "Cıncıklı Mosque" among the people.
Cacabey Astronomy Madrasa was included in the UNESCO Temporary World Heritage List under the title of Anatolian Seljuk Madrasahs in 2014.
