Çeşme Castle

The castle is located in Çeşme district of İzmir. It is 35 kilometers (22 mi) from Izmir. The Algerian Gazi Hasan Pasha Monument is in front of the castle and the Çeşme Museum is located in the castle. Çeşme, which was under the control of the Ottoman Empire, was attacked twice by the Venetians, in 1472 and 1501. Afterwards, the castle was built against possible future attacks. Cesme Castle, Ottoman Sultan II. It was built in 1508 during the reign of Bayezid I. Its commander was Mir Haydar, the governor of Aydın Province. The twin towers of the castle closest to the sea show architectural similarities with the northwest tower of the Genoese castle in Chios. The building, which was originally a coastal fortress, is located inland today due to the filling of the sea. There are six bastions on three sides of the castle, which was built in a rectangular plan. Events such as the Cesme International Music Festival and the Cesme Festival are held in the castle.
