Cleopatra
The surrounding walls of the city, which was built during the Byzantine period, have three gates. Mountain Gate, Adana Gate and Sea Gate. The walls of Tarsus with these very powerful gates were demolished by Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt in 1835 and only the Sea Gate remained. According to the legend, the famous queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, suddenly entered Tarsus through the Sea Gate to meet her lover, Roman General Antonius. For this reason, it is also called the Cleopatra Gate.
