Dardanos Tumulus
The ancient city of Dardanos is located on the way to Izmir, where the Hasan Mevsuf Martyrdom is located. It is the oldest city established in the Dardanelles region. It has been the subject of many legends. The founder of this city is Dardanos. The arrival of Dardanos to this region is in the form of different legends.
According to a legend, Dardanos is the son of Cortios, the king of Samotras ( Samothrace ). He marries the daughter of Sersis, one of the kings of Arkadi. After a while, he quarreled with his wife's brother, Pasyon, killing him. Thereupon, he escaped from the island and came to the Hellespont region in Anatolia. Koker (1590 BC), the king of this region, treats him well and marries him with his daughter Yani. He then leaves his kingdom to her. As soon as Dardanos became king, he established a city bearing his name in the region. B.C. He dies in 1537. The strait, whose old name was Hellespontos, was named Dardanelles because of this city.
According to another legend, Dardanos is the son of Electra, the daughter of the Greek god Atlas, and Zeus, the god of gods. He lived on the island of Samothrake with his sister, Ission. One day his sister Ission died and the island was flooded. Thereupon, Dardanos got away from this island by getting on a raft and came to this region in Anatolia. Teuker, the king of this place, welcomed him well and married his daughter Batiei. This king was also the son of Mount Ida, the largest mountain in that region, and Skamandros, the largest river.
King Teuker soon handed over his kingdom to Dardanos. Upon the death of Dardanos, his son Arihtonios became king. When the time came and he died, his son Tro became king. (1462 BC) As soon as Tro became king, although the center of the kingdom was Dardani, he had a city built for himself. This city takes the name of Troy.
According to a legend, the original founders of the city of Dardanos were the Aoils. The city emerged with the opening of the Dardanos Tumulus.
