Dönertaş Fountain
Dönertaş Fountain is a fountain located in Izmir, Turkey. Dönertaş Fountain was built by İsmail Rahmi Efendi in 1814 in the name of his father Osmanzade Seyyid İbrahim Rahmi Efendi. It was renovated by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2006. Dönertaş Fountain is made of cut stone and has a marble exterior. There is a tiled dome on its roof. The rectangular structure has a door and two windows with brass railings. There is a marble column with an ornate capital on its corner. This movable column serves as an earthquake scale and is called a dönertaş. The fountain, which bears traces of the baroque and rococo styles, has curtain, fruit, flower and mosque motifs in relief on its exterior. In addition, the phrase "We created every living thing from water" from verse 30 of the Anbiya Sura is written in Arabic on its frieze.
