Edirne Great Synagogue
Edirne Great Synagogue is the place of worship in Edirne, which is the largest synagogue in Turkey and the third largest in Europe. The synagogue, whose history dates back to the Sephardic community who escaped from the pressures in Europe and took refuge in the Ottoman Empire in 1492, and which burned down in the great fire in 1905, was rebuilt with the edict of Sultan Abdulhamit II and reopened in 1907 on the eve of Passover. French architect France Depré designed the building inspired by the Leopoldstädter Tempel synagogue in Vienna.
