Selimiye Mosque and Complex, the most important monumental work of Edirne, which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire before the conquest of Istanbul and crowning the silhouette of the city, was built by Sultan II in the 16th century. It was built in the name of Selim. The Mosque and Kulliye, which is the most magnificent work of its period and later with its technical perfection, dimensions and aesthetic values, is considered as one of the most magnificent examples of the art of architecture and a masterpiece of the creative genius of man. Magnificent Mosque with its large dome with thin and elegant 4 minarets, stone, marble, wood, mother-of-pearl and especially tile motifs and fine workmanship used in its interior design, which are the best examples of its period, and pencil works on its domes and arches, a marble-tiled courtyard and a manuscript library associated with the building. It represents the pinnacle of an art genre with its educational institutions, outer courtyard and arasta.
