Eğri Minare Mosque
The Eğri Minare Mosque draws attention with its similarity to the world-famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy. The Eğri Minare, located on Nevşehir Street in the city center of Aksaray, is one of the important historical monuments that have survived from the Seljuk Period. While the minaret is called the Eğri Minare due to its curvature, it is also known as the Kızıl Minare due to the red bricks.
The Eğri Minare Mosque, which is one of the 13th century Seljuk works, was built by Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I, the father of the Seljuk Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat, between 1221-1236. The minaret is made of red bricks glued with Khorasan mortar. According to the researches, it has been accepted as the general opinion that the Eğri Minare was made obliquely by its master. The Eğri Minare, which has survived for about 800 years, is one of the unique examples of Seljuk architecture.
