Estergon Castle Museum
Esztergon Castle is a castle located on the banks of the Danube, 60 km northwest of the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
It is of great importance in the history of Hungary and the Ottoman Empire. Dating to the beginning of the 13th century, the castle is one of the first important structures built in the history of Hungary. It was the administrative and religious center of the Hungarian Kingdom until the Mongol invasion in 1241.
The Ottoman Empire captured the castle, which was under the rule of the Austrians at that time, in 1543 for the first time. The fact that the Ottomans had to surrender the castle in 1595 became the subject of folk songs. The castle, which was captured again in 1605, came out of Ottoman rule in 1683. Today, it is a tourist attraction.
