Euromos Ancient City

Euromos was the most important city of the region after Mylasa in Antiquity. The name of the city is BC. It appears in the form of "Kyramos" or "Hyramos" in the 5th century. Euromos, which means "strong" in Greek, must have been used as a result of the Hellenization policy of Mausolos. According to what we learned from an inscription, Euromos was at odds with its northern neighbor, Herakleia. The reason for this was that the Herakleians plundered the lands of Euromos and took away the sacred and private goods, and the Mylasa officials, who were affected by the looting, applied to the envoy of Mylasa and resolved the problem with the envoy they sent to Herakleia. Although the ruins of the city are very worn, one of the best preserved half-dozen temples in Asia is the Temple of Zeus at Euromos. The building dating from the 2nd century AD was built in Corinthian order with 6 columns on the facades and 9 columns on the sides. It is understood that the decoration work was left unfinished, since the three columns on the north side of the building and the column on the southwest corner were smooth.
