Foça Beş Kapılar Castle

Foça Castle or Beş Kapılar Castle is a castle in the Foça district of İzmir. It was built in the 11th or 12th century. The Genoese took the castle from the Byzantines and rebuilt it. The Ottomans, who took Foça in 1455, repaired the walls of the castle and added towers between 1538 and 1539. UNESCO included the castle on the World Heritage Tentative List in 2013.
