Gümeli Natural Memorial
Due to its natural resource values, an area of 2550 decares within the Gümeli Forests of Zonguldak province, Alaplı district was declared as Gümeli Natural Monument on March 11, 2008. The most important feature of the field; It is a natural, old yew stand with yew (Taxus baccata L.) trees aged between 1987 and 1164. There are many yew trees in the area, with an average age of between 300 and 500 years. In the examinations made around the said field; It has been determined that the forest sections right next to the area are also in the status of "natural old forest" and contain many monumental old trees. As a result of scientific investigations, the yew tree (Taxus baccata L.), which is 4114 years old as of 2019, located in the field next to the natural monument; It is the oldest tree in our country, the oldest yew tree in the world and one of the 5 oldest known and identified trees in the world.
