Günyamaç Church

Historical Church / Hafik, Turkiye, Central Anatolia, Sivas

Günyamaç Church

Günyamaç village is 3 km away from Hafik and a new village settlement has been formed besides the old place of the village. It is estimated that the village was founded in the 1800s and it is understood from the church in the old village where our non-Muslim citizens lived in the years when the province was founded.

The village of Günyamaç, formerly known as Pirepüt, once reached the size of 100 households. However, first in the 1950s and then in the 1980s, due to economic inadequacies, it migrated to big cities, especially Istanbul.

Information about the construction year of the church could not be found. The first church in the village is thought to date back to 1800. The current state of the church is being demolished and in a dilapidated state.
