Hadrianapolis Ancient City
The place called "Paphlagonia Hadrianapolis" is today 3 kilometers west of Karabük Province Eskipazar District Center, scattered over the area called "Viranşehir" and the surrounding land. The Ancient City of Hadrianapolis includes the villages of Budaklar, Büyükyaylalar, Çaylı and Beytarla. The remains of the city are concentrated in Budaklar Village, Hacı Ahmetler Neighborhood, and this location is called Viranşehir.
The socio-economic structure, cultural history and archeology of Northwest Anatolia in classical antiquity have not been discussed much until today. Therefore, the ruins of the city of Hadrianapolis are not very well known. In fact, there are multiple centers in the city. Roman ruins are concentrated in one of them. This area is a sanctuary with an aedicula carved into the rock face. Apart from this, the Roman period architectural remains of the city are limited. The remains of the Early Byzantine Period are dense.
