Hassuni Caves

Hassuni Caves are caves located in Bahçe village of Silvan district of Diyarbakır. The Hassuni valley and its caves are located on the south flank of the Southeast Taurus Mountains and 5 km northeast of the Silvan district center. It is included in the list of registered archaeological sites prepared by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Eocene-Oligocene flysch is found around the Midyat Formation with limestone lithology. In the Kluz (cluse) type sheltered valley, the dwellings were carved into the rocks. There are approximately 300 cave dwellings and annexes carved from limestone rocks suitable for processing, connected to each other by corridors, and they are connected to each other by passages. There are 12 cisterns in total and all of them are connected to each other by water channels and are connected to each other by a buoy system.
