Hell Gate (Plütonyum)
Founded by King Eumenes II of Pergamon in the 2nd century BC, the 2,200-year-old ancient city of Hierapolis, which means "holy city", reflects the richness of Anatolia's history with its impressive structures and sculptures that have survived to this day.
Plutonium, which was discovered in the ancient city in 2013, draws attention as a structure mentioned in mythology stories.
After the excavation team headed by Prof. Dr. Francesco D'Andria identified one of the sources of thermal water that gives the travertines in Pamukkale their whiteness and determined that the structure on this source is Plutonium, known as "Hell Gate" in mythology, the work in the region was accelerated.
