Historical Bitlis Houses
Bitlis houses, which are usually separated from the street by a high wall, are closed to the outside but reflect a free and original architectural understanding to that extent; They were built of smooth cut stone with a flat earthen roof. The portals of the buildings, which show a dull architectural feature from the outside, seem to show that the real mystery is inside the houses. Bitlis houses are like the doors of a spacious world that opens to people with their crown-covered courtyards and gardens adorned with various fruit trees when one enters through these doors. There are 193 registered residences in the center of Bitlis, where historical buildings are concentrated, and 51 registered residences in Ahlat District.
