Historical Sakarya River Bridge

The "Sakarya Bridge", which is said to have been built by the Minister of Public Works of the time, Ali Çetinkaya, was built in 1936-37. It is possible that Atatürk, who was passing by the wooden Chicken Bridge, now near Kumköy, while coming to Adapazarı via Bolu in July 1934, saw the inadequacy of the bridge and gave the order to "build a solid and safe concrete bridge". The bridge, which is 108.60 meters long and 4.80 meters wide, was completed by spending 93,000 liras. It will be seen that the bridge , built in the reinforced concrete bowstring type and having three legs, each 35 meters in width, is also exceptionally resistant to the floods that were common in the region until the 1970s. To the bridge; Although it is called "Trabzanlar Bridge" due to the name of the adjacent village on the map dated 1530, or "Suns Bridge" due to the name of the district in the direction of Adapazarı, the most common name is "Sakarya Bridge". As a matter of fact, as of 2009, it is still known as the "Old Sakarya Bridge" today. The bridge that is the symbol of the city today and used in the logos is the Sakarya Bridge.
