Kadifekale Mount
According to legend, Alexander, who came to Smirni during the Eastern Campaign, fell asleep while hunting on Pagos Hill and had a dream. In his dream, he is told that he must carry the city to the foot of this hill. The relocation process took place after the death of Alexander, under the rule of Antigonos Monophtalmos I and Lisimahos, respectively, at the end of the 4th century BC and the beginning of the 3rd century BC. It is known that the first walls in the castle were built during this period. In the 13th century, III. While the walls of the castle were repaired during the reign of John, a cistern, church and monastery were built inside the castle. The walls destroyed by Mehmed I in the 15th century, II. It was repaired again during the reign of Mehmed. After it was captured by the Turks, the church in the castle was converted into a mosque. By the 18th century, the castle was in a dilapidated condition and lost its function. In the early 2010s, with the urban renewal project carried out by the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, the buildings in front of the southern walls of the castle were demolished. In 2015, the castle walls were renewed and illuminated. A year later, the cistern and mosque were restored. As of July 2019, a producer's market has started to be established every week in the castle. Kadifekale was included in the World Heritage Tentative List as a part of the heritage site created by UNESCO in 2020 as "İzmir Historical Port City".
